Did you know that the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5990/1A-001was produced from 2014 up until 2022, when this model in Grey dial was discontinued and replaced with the blue dial version.

There were not too many changes that were offered in this particular model during its production run, but a more notably one was when Patek replaced the older style pin-release clasp with the newer button-release quick clasp that is not just more convenient for every day use but arguably, aesthetically more elegant.

The new clasp was only introduced in the Patek Nautilus 5990 in 2021, meaning that it was a very small batch of 5990/1A-011 that’s was produced during 2021 and early 2022 which came with the new style clasp before this model was discontinued and replaced with the blue dial version reference 5990/1A-011.

Most of the 5990 Grey dial offered in the market come with the older style clasp, making the new style version rare and more collectible.
At the time of this post, we have this incredibly rare and beautiful 5990 available in stock per the link below:

Does the new clasp make this watch more collectible, rare and sought after? This is always going to be arguable, but if finer details do not matter in watchmaking, then what exactly is it that make watches special?
So I will leave this here by saying that ‘devil is in the details’!
