Cartier Santos de Cartier Large WGSA0019, 18k Rose Gold, Mint Unpolished, Full Set

The Santos in rose gold — the warmest Santos

The Cartier WGSA0019 Santos de Cartier Large in 18k rose gold distills the house’s heritage into a contemporary wristwatch of refined lines and assured presence. Its silvered dial, balanced by exposed screws, pays tribute to the original Santos design ethos that pioneered men’s wristwatches over a century ago.

The WGSA0019 is the Santos in its most precious and warm configuration. Where the steel and ADLC models carry the Santos’s tool-watch DNA, and the yellow gold version reads as overtly luxurious, the rose gold occupies the position between them — warmer than steel, softer in register than yellow gold, and with a particular relationship to the silvered opaline dial that the other metals cannot replicate. The cool silver of the dial against the warm rose gold of the case, exposed screws, crown, and bezel creates the deliberate contrast that makes a watch where the cool and warm tones negotiate rather than agree.

The Santos de Cartier WGSA0019 exhibits what quiet elegance truly looks like. It has an 18K rose gold case with the perfect mix of brushed and polished finishes. Its opaline silver dial presents a neat layout of Roman numeral hour markers, a square inner minute railroad track, a discreet date window at 6, and blued steel hands.

Mint and unpolished — critical on an 18k rose gold case

Rose gold is softer than stainless steel. The Santos’s case architecture — brushed side panels, polished bezel face, polished exposed screws — relies on the precise distinction between those finishes to read correctly. Any polishing, even conservative cleaning with an abrasive cloth, softens that distinction and produces a uniformly warm, reflective surface that no longer matches what Cartier produced.

This example is mint and entirely unpolished. The perfect mix of brushed and polished finishes applied at the Cartier manufacture is intact throughout. For a rose gold Santos at this level, unpolished condition is not a minor distinction — it is the difference between owning the watch Cartier made and owning a refinished approximation of it.

The dial — silvered opaline, Roman numerals, blued-steel hands

The silvered opaline dial carries painted Roman numeral hour markers, a discreet date window at 6 o’clock, Cartier’s signature inner railroad-style minute track, and blued-steel sword-shaped hands. The blued-steel hands against the silvered opaline dial and rose gold case are Cartier’s most refined combination — the blue tone of the hands sits equidistant between the cool silver of the dial and the warm gold of the case, resolving the tension between them rather than taking a side.

The 7-sided crown in rose gold, set with a faceted blue sapphire, continues the colour theme off the dial: a small jewellery detail that elevates the crown from a functional component to a design element, as Cartier has applied across its collections for decades.

FAQs

Is this Cartier Santos WGSA0019 available in Australia? Yes. This Cartier Santos de Cartier Large WGSA0019 in 18k rose gold is held in Perth by Calibre24 and ships fully insured across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide. Viewings by appointment in Perth.

What is the Cartier Santos WGSA0019? The WGSA0019 is the large model Santos de Cartier in 18k rose gold (750/1000) — a 39.8mm square case with 8 exposed rose gold screws, a silvered opaline dial with Roman numeral markers and blued-steel sword-shaped hands, a 7-sided rose gold crown set with a faceted sapphire, and Cartier’s Calibre 1847 MC automatic movement. It comes with an interchangeable leather strap and a rose gold folding buckle via the QuickSwitch system. Water resistant to 100m.

What is the difference between the Cartier Santos WGSA0019 and WSSA0009? The WGSA0019 is the large Santos in 18k rose gold (750/1000) on leather straps with a rose gold buckle. The WSSA0009 is the large Santos in stainless steel, available with an integrated steel bracelet or leather straps. The WGSA0019 is the precious metal configuration — the same Santos design, the same Calibre 1847 MC movement, the same QuickSwitch system, in a material that reads warmer and more formal. The steel WSSA0009 is more casual and more widely produced; the WGSA0019 is the rose gold configuration for buyers who want the Santos in its most luxurious register.

What is the difference between the Cartier Santos WGSA0019 (leather straps) and WGSA0006 (rose gold bracelet)? Both are the large Santos de Cartier in 18k rose gold with Calibre 1847 MC. The WGSA0019 comes with interchangeable leather straps and a rose gold folding buckle. The WGSA0006 is fitted with an integrated 18k rose gold metal bracelet with SmartLink adjustment. The leather strap configuration (WGSA0019) is lighter and more casual on the wrist; the bracelet configuration (WGSA0006) is the more formal and substantial rose gold expression of the Santos.

Why is unpolished condition especially important on a rose gold Santos? Rose gold (18k, 750/1000) is softer than stainless steel. The Santos case relies on precise alternating brushed and polished surfaces — the brushed side panels and polished bezel and screws — which define its architectural character. Polishing removes the sharpness of that alternating line and produces a uniformly warm, reflective surface that no longer matches the Cartier factory specification. A mint unpolished WGSA0019 has the factory finishing intact exactly as applied at the Cartier manufacture — the brushed and polished surfaces are crisp and uninterrupted. This is the benchmark condition for a rose gold Santos and the standard by which serious buyers compare listings.

What is the Calibre 1847 MC in the Cartier Santos? The Calibre 1847 MC is Cartier’s in-house automatic movement, self-winding at 28,800 vph with approximately 40–42 hours of power reserve. It drives hours, minutes, central seconds, and a date aperture at 6 o’clock. The 1847 MC is Cartier’s manufacture movement used across the Santos and other collection pieces — it represents Cartier’s entry into in-house movement production and is the movement that distinguishes modern Santos references from those powered by ETA-based calibres.

Why does the Santos have exposed screws on the bezel? The signature exposed screws on the Santos bezel pay tribute to the original Santos design ethos that pioneered men’s wristwatches over a century ago. Louis Cartier designed the Santos for Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1904 as a wristwatch for active aviation use — the visible screws were functional fasteners that secured the bezel to the case. On the modern Santos they remain functional, and in rose gold they are polished to a high shine that makes them the watch’s defining decorative element. Eight exposed screws in solid rose gold on the WGSA0019 is a detail that both grounds the design historically and reads as a jewellery finish in the precious metal context.

Does this Cartier Santos come with box and papers? Yes — complete full set with original Cartier presentation box, inner box, papers, and documentation.
