MECHANICAL CONDITION, ACCURACY & TIMEKEEPING

All pre-owned watches are sold having regard to their age, condition, service history (where known), and the inherent characteristics of a mechanical timepiece.

Unless expressly stated otherwise in writing at the time of sale, any accuracy, power reserve, water resistance, chronometer certification or other performance specification published by the manufacturer relates to the watch or model when new and does not constitute a representation or guarantee that a pre-owned watch will continue to achieve its original factory specifications or tolerances.

Mechanical watches are inherently subject to variations in timekeeping. Accuracy and performance may be affected by factors including age, movement condition, service history, position, wearing habits, state of wind, power reserve, temperature, magnetism, shock and other environmental or operational factors.

Accordingly, minor variations in timekeeping, including performance outside the manufacturer’s original factory tolerance, do not of themselves indicate that a pre-owned watch is defective or requires repair or servicing.

Where a watch is covered by our Dealer Mechanical Warranty, we warrant that the movement will remain in reasonable mechanical working order during the applicable warranty period, having regard to the watch’s age, condition, service history where known, price and other relevant circumstances.

If a customer reports a material timekeeping or mechanical issue during the warranty period, we may inspect and test the watch, or arrange for it to be assessed by a suitably qualified watchmaker, to determine whether a mechanical fault exists. Assessment may include, where appropriate, rate, amplitude, beat error, power reserve and general movement operation.

A watch will not automatically be considered mechanically defective solely because it does not achieve the manufacturer’s original new-watch accuracy specification. The mechanical condition and performance of a pre-owned watch will be assessed reasonably having regard to its individual age, condition, service history and characteristics.

Where inspection identifies a mechanical defect covered by our Dealer Mechanical Warranty, we will provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with the terms of that warranty and applicable law.

This warranty does not cover issues arising from accidental damage, impact, misuse, improper handling, magnetisation, water or moisture ingress where water resistance has not been expressly warranted, unauthorised opening or repair, modification, or damage caused after delivery to the customer.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified under the Australian Consumer Law.

POWER RESERVE & AUTOMATIC WINDING

Manufacturer-stated power reserve figures represent approximate performance from a sufficiently or fully wound movement under applicable test conditions and do not represent a guarantee that a particular number of hours of wrist wear will produce the stated power reserve. Automatic winding depends upon the frequency and extent of wrist movement and may vary substantially between wearers and lifestyles. The number of hours for which a watch has been worn, by itself, is therefore not a measure of its power-reserve performance. Where a power-reserve concern is raised, the Dealer may assess the watch from an adequately manually wound state under reasonable testing conditions. For pre-owned watches, reasonable allowance will also be made for the watch’s age, condition and service history.

DEALER MECHANICAL WARRANTY

Unless otherwise stated in writing at the time of sale, Calibre24 provides a 6-month Dealer Mechanical Warranty from the date of purchase on pre-owned watches sold by us.

The Dealer Mechanical Warranty covers defects affecting the normal mechanical operation of the watch movement that arise during the warranty period under normal use. Where a covered defect is confirmed, Calibre24 will, at its cost, arrange for the watch to be inspected and repaired by a suitably qualified watchmaker.

The warranty applies to the mechanical functionality of the watch having regard to its age, condition, service history (where known), and the inherent characteristics of a pre-owned mechanical timepiece. It does not guarantee that a pre-owned watch will continue to meet the manufacturer’s original factory specifications, including original accuracy or power-reserve tolerances, unless expressly stated by Calibre24 in writing at the time of sale.

Minor variations in timekeeping or performance do not, by themselves, constitute a defect. Where a timekeeping concern is raised, Calibre24 may inspect or test the watch, or arrange for assessment by a suitably qualified watchmaker, to determine whether a mechanical defect exists.

The Dealer Mechanical Warranty does not cover:

  • normal wear and tear or deterioration associated with the age and previous use of the watch;
  • cosmetic condition or deterioration, including scratches, dents, polishing, fading, discolouration, bracelets, clasps, straps, buckles, crystals or external finishes;
  • accidental damage, impact, shock, misuse, negligence or improper handling;
  • magnetisation or timekeeping variations caused by external magnetic fields;
  • damage caused by water or moisture ingress unless water resistance was expressly warranted in writing by Calibre24 at the time of sale;
  • damage resulting from operation of the crown, pushers or other functions contrary to the manufacturer’s intended operation;
  • faults or damage resulting from alteration, modification, opening, servicing or repair by any third party after purchase;
  • theft, loss or damage occurring after delivery of the watch; or
  • any defect or condition that was specifically disclosed to the purchaser before purchase.

To make a claim under this Dealer Mechanical Warranty, the purchaser must contact Calibre24 during the 6-month warranty period, provide proof of purchase and make the watch available to Calibre24 for inspection. The watch must not be opened, serviced or repaired by a third party before Calibre24 has had a reasonable opportunity to inspect and assess the claimed defect.

The benefits provided by this Dealer Mechanical Warranty are in addition to any other rights and remedies available to the purchaser under applicable law.
