The Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5168G-010 — the Jumbo in khaki
The 5168G increased the Aquanaut case to 42.2mm and debuted a bold alternative to the dress-sport aesthetic of the smaller references. The 5168G-010 introduced the khaki green dial and matching composite strap in 2019, and the reception was immediate: the khaki green model has become hugely recognisable within the Aquanaut lineup, its adventurous color palette evoking exploration and wide horizons in a way no other Patek dial had previously attempted.
The 5168G is not simply a bigger 5167A. It has a different personality — heavier, more precious, more serious. The white gold case changes the watch’s character in the hand in a way that photographs cannot convey: it sits with a different weight on the wrist, and the alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces of the white gold bezel and case catch light differently from the equivalent steel. Against the khaki green dial, the white gold reads as sophisticated rather than precious — an unusual combination that has made the 5168G-010 one of the more discussed Aquanaut references among collectors who understand the distinction.
White gold is the case metal most susceptible to polishing degradation on the secondary market. Because white gold is softer than steel, any buffing or cleaning that applies abrasion to the case may remove the crisp line between the brushed and polished alternating surfaces — a line that defines the Aquanaut’s visual architecture. A 5168G-010 that has been polished, is a different watch from one that hasn’t.
This example has carried protection film on the case since new. The alternating brushed and polished finishes are as Patek Philippe produced them. For a buyer at this level, the unpolished condition of a white gold Aquanaut is not a minor detail; it is the difference between owning the watch Patek made and owning an approximation of it. The protection film confirms both.
The khaki green varnished dial is embossed with the Aquanaut’s signature checkerboard pattern, with white gold applied Arabic numerals carrying white luminescent coating. In direct light the dial reads as a warm military green; in lower light it deepens toward olive. The matching khaki green composite strap ties the dial colour to the wrist, making the watch read as a single designed object rather than a watch on a strap.
The date aperture at 3 o’clock is clean and integrated, legible without being visually disruptive. The central sweep seconds hand completes the dial layout without additional complication — the 5168G-010 is a time-and-date piece, not a Travel Time, not a chronograph. Its sophistication is in what it doesn’t show, and in the quality of what it does.
Mint. Unpolished. Protection film has been on the case since new. The exhibition caseback is clear, revealing the Calibre 26-330 SC and the 21k gold central rotor.
At the heart of the 5168G-010 is the self-winding Calibre 26-330 SC — a movement that combines the Spiromax silicon balance spring and Gyromax balance with hacking seconds, allowing precise time-setting to the second. The sapphire exhibition caseback provides a direct view of the 21k gold central rotor and the movement’s finishing — Geneva stripes on the bridges, bevelled and polished anglage throughout, and the rotor engraved with the Patek Philippe emblem. Power reserve is 35–45 hours. Certified to the Patek Philippe Seal standard.
The 26-330 SC is the current-generation Aquanaut movement, introducing the silicon Spiromax balance spring — the same technology used in Patek’s top grand complications — for improved magnetic resistance and thermal stability over the earlier 324 SC.

What is the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5168G-010? The 5168G-010 is the khaki green dial version of the Patek Philippe Aquanaut “Jumbo” — the 42.2mm white gold Aquanaut, the largest and most substantial reference in the Aquanaut time-and-date line. Introduced in 2019, the khaki green version pairs an embossed khaki green dial and matching composite strap with an 18k white gold case featuring alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces. It is powered by the Calibre 26-330 SC with Spiromax silicon balance spring and Gyromax balance, with hacking seconds and a 21k gold central rotor visible through the sapphire caseback.
What is the difference between the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A, 5168G, and 5164A? The 5167A is the standard 40.8mm stainless steel time-and-date Aquanaut — the most accessible and most produced reference in the line. The 5168G is the “Jumbo” at 42.2mm in 18k white gold — larger, heavier, and in a precious metal, with a notably different wrist presence. The 5164A (now discontinued in steel, replaced by the 5164G in white gold) was the dual time zone Travel Time Aquanaut, also in steel at 40.8mm. The 5168G-010 is for buyers who want the Aquanaut’s design at its most commanding — the largest case, white gold, and the khaki green colour that distinguishes it from everything else in the Patek Philippe catalogue.
Why is the unpolished condition especially important on a white gold Aquanaut? White gold is softer than stainless steel, making it more susceptible to surface degradation from polishing or cleaning with abrasive materials. The Aquanaut’s visual identity depends on the precise alternating line between its brushed and polished surfaces — on the case sides, the bezel facets, and the lugs. A 5168G that has been polished, even lightly, may lose the sharpness of that line. This example has carried protection film since new.
What is the Calibre 26-330 SC in the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5168G? The Calibre 26-330 SC is Patek Philippe’s current-generation Aquanaut movement. It is self-winding, running at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), with a power reserve of 35–45 hours from a central 21k gold rotor. Key features include the Spiromax silicon balance spring — non-magnetic and thermally stable, the same technology as Patek’s top complications — and the Gyromax balance for precise rate adjustment. Critically, the 26-330 SC includes hacking seconds: pulling the crown stops the sweep seconds hand, allowing synchronisation to the second. The movement is certified to the Patek Philippe Seal standard and is visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback.
What is the Patek Philippe Seal? The Patek Philippe Seal is the brand’s own quality and accuracy certification, introduced in 2009 to supersede the Geneva Seal. It covers the complete cased watch — movement, case, dial, and strap — and requires accuracy within −3/+2 seconds per day after casing. This is stricter than COSC chronometer certification, which governs only the bare movement. The Patek Philippe Seal is independently assessed and represents the highest standard of in-house Swiss watchmaking certification.
How does the 5168G-010 differ from the 5168G-001 (blue dial)?
