The Rolex Hulk — the green Submariner that will never return

The Rolex Hulk is the only Submariner in the model’s history to feature both a green sunburst dial and a matching green Cerachrom ceramic bezel. Introduced in 2010 as the replacement for the original Kermit (ref. 16610LV, which carried a green aluminium bezel insert against a black dial), the Hulk went further — a full green dial beneath a full green bezel, an all-green configuration that Rolex has never revisited before or since. When Rolex discontinued the Hulk in 2020, it was replaced by the 126610LV Starbucks — a watch with a green bezel but a black dial, reverting to the older Kermit formula. The all-green configuration is gone, and there is no indication it will return.

In 2020, Rolex discontinued the Hulk and replaced it with the 41mm ref. 126610LV, making it especially desirable among collectors who appreciate its unique place in the Submariner lineage. A NOS example from 2020 — the final year of production — is the last chapter of that lineage untouched.

The green NFC card — the rarest documentation detail on any Hulk

This is the detail that elevates this listing above every other NOS Hulk on the secondary market.

Rolex began transitioning authorised dealers to the new green NFC warranty card from around March 2020. Before this date, every Rolex — including every Hulk sold across the reference’s entire 2010–2020 production run — carried the old-style booklet-format guarantee. The Hulk was discontinued in 2020. The two events overlapped by a matter of weeks, not months.

The arithmetic is unambiguous: of the Hulks produced across ten years of production, only those sold in the narrow window between approximately March 2020 and the reference’s discontinuation later that year carry the new green NFC card. That is a fraction of a fraction of total Hulk production. The overwhelming majority of Hulks — 2010 through early 2020 — carry the old booklet. The new green card on a Hulk is documented proof of final-production sale, in a transitional documentation format that most Hulks can never carry.

The NFC card itself is scannable — a buyer or their watchmaker can verify the serial number and authenticity digitally, adding a layer of provenance confirmation that the old booklet cannot provide.

NOS, unsized, white serial tag — the complete condition story

Three condition and provenance details compound each other on this listing:

NOS — never worn. The watch has never been on a wrist. The Hulk’s dial finish — a rich sunburst that shifts from deep green to lighter emerald depending on angle and light — is intact and undamaged.

Unsized bracelet. All links remain in the bracelet. No links have been removed. The bracelet has not been fitted to a wrist. A buyer who purchases this watch will size it to their own wrist for the first time — the experience of an authorised dealer purchase, on a reference that no authorised dealer has sold new since 2020.

White serial hang tag. The serialised hang tag is the first item removed when a watch is unboxed, and on the secondary market it is absent from the majority of pre-owned Hulks regardless of condition. Its presence confirms an unbroken chain of ownership from purchase to this listing.

Calibre 3135 — the movement inside

The Calibre 3135 is the movement that powered the Submariner Date from 1988 through to the entire production run of the Hulk. It is a self-winding calibre with a 48-hour power reserve and Rolex’s blue Parachrom hairspring for magnetic and shock resistance. COSC-certified chronometer and Superlative Chronometer to ±2 seconds per day. The successor 126610LV uses the Calibre 3235 with 70-hour power reserve; the Hulk’s 3135 is a different and earlier movement generation.

What is the Rolex Hulk? The Rolex Hulk is the collector nickname for the Rolex Submariner Date ref. 116610LV, produced from 2010 to 2020 — the only Submariner in the model’s history to pair a green sunburst dial with a matching green Cerachrom ceramic bezel. The nickname was coined almost immediately after launch, referencing the character’s all-green appearance. When Rolex discontinued the Hulk in 2020, the successor 126610LV Starbucks reverted to a green bezel with a black dial, making the Hulk the sole reference in Submariner history with the all-green configuration.

Why is the green NFC warranty card so rare on a Rolex Hulk? Rolex began rolling out the new green NFC-enabled warranty card to authorised dealers from approximately March 2020, replacing the old booklet-format guarantee. The Hulk was discontinued in 2020. The window in which both the new card and the final Hulk deliveries coincided was measured in weeks, not months. Every Hulk sold before approximately March 2020 — which is the overwhelming majority of the reference’s entire ten-year production — carries the old booklet guarantee. A Hulk with the new green NFC card is therefore final-production, sold in the last weeks of the reference’s life, and is a demonstrably rare documentation configuration. It also provides digital verifiability — the NFC card can be scanned to confirm the serial number and warranty authenticity.

Why was the Rolex Hulk discontinued? Rolex discontinued the Hulk ref. 116610LV in 2020 to make way for the new Submariner ref. 126610LV with a 41mm steel case, a green Cerachrom bezel, and a black dial. The entire 116610 Submariner generation was retired at the same time. The Hulk’s successor did not carry forward the all-green dial-and-bezel configuration — the 126610LV Starbucks has a black dial — making the Hulk’s discontinuation a permanent retirement of the all-green Submariner concept.

What is the difference between the Rolex Hulk, Kermit, and Starbucks? All three are green Submariner nicknames representing different generations and configurations. The Kermit (ref. 16610LV, 2003–2010) was the first green Submariner — green aluminium bezel insert, black dial. The Hulk (ref. 116610LV, 2010–2020) replaced it with a full green Cerachrom bezel and a matching all-green sunburst dial — the boldest and only all-green Submariner. The Starbucks (ref. 126610LV, 2020–present) is the current green Submariner — 41mm case, green Cerachrom bezel, and a black dial, returning to the Kermit’s black-dial formula. Only the Hulk has the all-green dial and bezel.

What is the difference between the Rolex Hulk 116610LV and the Starbucks 126610LV? The Hulk is a 40mm watch with the Maxi Case profile, a green dial, green Cerachrom bezel, and the Calibre 3135 movement with a 48-hour power reserve. The Starbucks is 41mm, with a black dial, green Cerachrom bezel, and the Calibre 3235 with 70-hour power reserve and the Chronergy escapement. The Hulk’s green dial is the defining distinction — the Starbucks does not have a green dial. Both are Oystersteel with Oyster bracelet and 300m water resistance.

What does “NOS and unsized” mean for this Hulk? NOS means new old stock — the watch was produced and left the Rolex manufacture in brand new condition and has never been worn. Unsized means no links have been removed from the bracelet; it is in the same configuration as it left production. A buyer who purchases this watch will size the bracelet to their own wrist for the first time — the complete first-ownership experience, on a discontinued reference that no authorised dealer has sold new since 2020.

Does this Rolex Hulk come with box and papers? Yes — complete full set with original inner box, outer box, new green NFC Rolex warranty card (2020), submariner booklet, and white serial hang tag.

Can I sell or trade in my Rolex? Yes. Calibre24 buys and takes consignment on Rolex and other high-end references. Contact us for a current valuation.
