The Rolex Submariner Date Hulk 116610LV — a closed chapter in Rolex’s catalogue
Rolex introduced the 116610LV in 2010 as part of the Submariner Date’s 50th anniversary generation — the first production Submariner to pair a green Cerachrom ceramic bezel with a matching green dial. The combination was immediately polarising and immediately coveted: the all-green configuration was unlike anything Rolex had done with the Submariner before, and the nickname “Hulk” followed naturally.
In 2020 Rolex discontinued the 116610LV, replacing it with the 126610LV — a watch with a larger 41mm case, the newer Calibre 3235 movement, and a redesigned bracelet. The Hulk did not carry over. The green dial was retired along with the 116610LV reference. Today, a 116610LV in mint condition with original accessories is a finished-production Rolex Submariner — there will be no new examples, no later production runs, no updated versions of this specific configuration.
Secondary market values for the 116610LV have risen substantially since discontinuation, trading well above the original retail price on the strength of collector demand for a closed reference in clean condition.
The 116610LV’s defining characteristic is the combination of two green elements that most Submariners keep separate. The green Cerachrom ceramic bezel is shared with current-production variants. The green dial is not — no current production Rolex Submariner wears a green dial. It was specific to the 116610LV and it is gone from the current range.
The green Cerachrom bezel is Rolex’s ceramic compound, virtually scratch-resistant, immune to UV fade, and machined with precision that the earlier aluminium bezels could not match. The platinum-coated pip and numerals are applied after machining. A decade of production examples confirms that the green Cerachrom holds its colour and finish in a way that aluminium bezels from earlier eras do not.
The green sunburst dial — lacquered, luminous applied hour markers, date at 3 o’clock with Cyclops — was produced in the same deep green across the 116610LV’s entire 2010–2020 run. It photographs differently depending on the light: deep forest green in shade, lighter and more olive in direct sunlight.
Mint. Original Rolex boxes, manuals, and hang tag accompany the watch. Warranty card is missing.

What is the Rolex Submariner Hulk 116610LV? The 116610LV, nicknamed the “Hulk,” is the Rolex Submariner Date produced from 2010 to 2020 with a distinctive all-green configuration — a green Cerachrom ceramic bezel and a matching green dial. It was introduced as part of the Submariner’s 50th anniversary generation and was discontinued in 2020 when Rolex replaced it with the 126610LV. No current production Rolex Submariner wears a green dial, making the 116610LV a closed reference in Rolex’s catalogue.
Why was the Rolex Hulk 116610LV discontinued? Rolex retired the 116610LV in 2020 as part of a broader Submariner line update that introduced the new 41mm case generation with the Calibre 3235 movement. The 126610LV replaced the 116610LV in the green-bezel Submariner slot — but carries a black dial, not green. The green dial was not carried forward. Secondary market demand for the 116610LV has increased substantially since discontinuation, driven by collector interest in a mint closed reference.
What is the difference between the Rolex 116610LV Hulk and the 126610LV Starbucks? The 116610LV (Hulk) and 126610LV (Starbucks) are both green-bezel Submariners but differ in several key respects. The Hulk (116610LV) has a 40mm case, green dial, Calibre 3135, 48-hour power reserve, and is discontinued. The Starbucks (126610LV) has a 41mm case, black dial, Calibre 3235, 70-hour power reserve, and remains in current production. The Hulk’s green dial is the defining visual difference — and the reason discontinued examples command collector premiums.
What does Cerachrom mean on the Rolex Submariner bezel? Cerachrom is Rolex’s proprietary ceramic compound used for the Submariner’s unidirectional rotating bezel. It is virtually scratchproof, immune to UV fading, and machined to tolerances that earlier aluminium bezels could not achieve. The green Cerachrom on the 116610LV holds its colour and finish over time in a way that the green aluminium bezels of pre-2010 Submariners do not. The pip and numerals on the 116610LV bezel are platinum-coated rather than painted.
What is Calibre 3135 in the Rolex Submariner Hulk? Calibre 3135 is the self-winding movement Rolex used in the Submariner Date throughout the 116610LV’s production run (2010–2020). It beats at 28,800 vph, produces approximately 48 hours of power reserve, and is COSC-certified to −2/+2 seconds per day. It features a Parachrom hairspring for improved magnetic resistance. The 3135 was Rolex’s workhorse Submariner movement for decades and is well-understood in the service community.
Does this Rolex Hulk 116610LV come with box and papers? This example comes with original Rolex boxes, manuals, and hang tag. The warranty card is not available with this example. All other original accessories are present and intact.
How does the Rolex 116610LV Hulk compare in value to current Submariners? The 116610LV has appreciated significantly since its 2020 discontinuation. Pre-owned examples in excellent condition trade well above the original retail price on the secondary market, driven by collector demand for a mint closed reference with a green dial that no longer exists in Rolex’s current production catalogue. Mint condition with original accessories commands the strongest premiums.
Can I sell or trade in my Rolex? Yes. Calibre24 buys and takes consignment on Rolex and other high-end references. Contact us for a current valuation.
