Santos de Cartier Small W2SA0033, Yellow Gold & Steel Two-Tone, Aug 2026, Factory Stickers
The Santos is not merely a Cartier model. It is the origin point of the wristwatch as a purposeful object. In 1904, Louis Cartier granted the wish of the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont: to be able to tell time while flying. The result sealed the bond between these two pioneers and produced one of the first true wristwatches — a square case with rounded angles, seamlessly curved lugs, and exposed screws deliberately left visible as functional design elements. That original aesthetic is reproduced without compromise in the current Santos de Cartier collection. Nothing about the design has needed changing in over a century.
The Small model — reference W2SA0033 — is the Santos at its most refined: 27mm × 34.5mm in 18k yellow gold and steel, combining the warmth of yellow gold on the bezel, crown, and bracelet centre links with the structure of polished steel on the case sides and outer bracelet links. It is the Santos configured as a dress piece — precise in scale, warm in metal, and entirely characteristic of how Cartier approaches jewellery watchmaking.
The W2SA0033’s two-tone is yellow gold and steel, not the rosé-toned gold or white gold found in other Santos references. Yellow gold is the historically correct metal for the Santos: the original 1904 design was executed in yellow gold, and the two-tone yellow gold and steel combination is the configuration that most directly references that origin. The 18k yellow gold appears on the case, bezel, and bracelet centre links; polished steel handles the case sides, bracelet outer links, and the structural elements. The result is warm but measured — not a full gold watch, but one where the gold reads as accent and reference rather than statement.
The silver sunray dial carries Cartier’s Roman numeral hour markers — a Santos house detail — with blued-steel sword-shaped hands. The hands’ blue tone works against the silver dial and the warm yellow gold surround in a combination that has been Cartier’s signature dial language for decades. The 7-sided crown is set with a blue synthetic faceted spinel, a Cartier signature that adds a jewellery dimension to what is technically a functional crown. The sapphire crystal sits flat above the dial, scratch-resistant.
This example carries factory stickers intact and an August 2026 warranty date. It has never been worn. For a small two-tone Santos — a category where the typical secondary market example is years-old with a worn bracelet and missing box — a factory-fresh August 2026 full set is genuinely unusual. The buyer receives a watch in production-fresh condition with the full remaining Cartier international warranty, both straps unworn, and the complete original set.
The W2SA0033 comes with two straps — the yellow gold and steel integrated bracelet, and a second strap in dark blue calfskin leather with a steel ardillon buckle. Both are fitted with Cartier’s interchangeability system. The integrated bracelet is the formal configuration: steel and gold alternating links, proportioned to the 27mm case, secured with a fold-over clasp. The dark blue calfskin strap shifts the character entirely — softer, more casual, and the blue of the leather picks up the blue of the spinel crown.
The W2SA0033 Small Santos is quartz-powered — not the Calibre 1847 MC automatic movement found in the medium and large Santos references. This is a deliberate Cartier specification for the small model: at 7.08mm case thickness, the quartz movement allows the Santos Small to wear as a slim, jewellery-calibre dress piece rather than a sports watch. For a buyer who prioritises precision, wearability, and the Santos aesthetic over mechanical movement status, the quartz specification is the correct one for this size and use case. Buyers who specifically require an automatic movement should consider the Santos Medium (35.1mm) or Large (39.8mm).

What is the Cartier Santos de Cartier Small W2SA0033? The W2SA0033 is the small model of the Cartier Santos de Cartier — a 27mm × 34.5mm watch in 18k yellow gold and steel two-tone. It features a silver sunray dial with Roman numeral markers and blued-steel sword-shaped hands, a 7-sided crown set with a blue synthetic spinel, and Cartier’s signature square case with exposed bezel screws. The watch is quartz-powered and comes with two interchangeable straps — a yellow gold and steel integrated bracelet and a dark blue calfskin leather strap. Water resistance is 30m.
What is the difference between the Cartier Santos Small, Medium, and Large? Cartier currently offers the Santos de Cartier in three sizes. The Small (27mm × 34.5mm, ref. W2SA0033) is the most compact and is quartz-powered, making it the dress-oriented Santos — slim at 7.08mm thick, in two-tone yellow gold and steel. The Medium (35.1mm × 41.9mm) and Large (39.8mm) models carry the Calibre 1847 MC automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve, are water-resistant to 100m, and read as more substantial on the wrist. The small and medium are the most versatile sizes for smaller wrists; the large is the standard men’s configuration.
Is the Cartier Santos Small quartz or automatic? The Santos Small W2SA0033 is quartz-powered. The Calibre 1847 MC automatic movement is used in the medium and large Santos references. Cartier specifies quartz for the small model to maintain the slim 7.08mm case thickness that makes the Small Santos a credible dress watch. For buyers who specifically want an automatic movement, the Santos Medium (ref. WSSA0029 in steel, or the two-tone variants) is the appropriate size.
Why does the Cartier Santos have exposed screws on the bezel? The exposed screws on the Santos bezel are a functional design element carried directly from the 1904 original. Louis Cartier designed the Santos for Alberto Santos-Dumont as a wristwatch for active use in aviation — the visible screws were practical fasteners that secured the bezel to the case. On the modern Santos, the screws are still functional (they hold the bezel) but have become the defining aesthetic signature of the collection. They are one of the most immediately recognisable details in watchmaking, and the reason the Santos is often described as the first luxury sports watch.
What is the blue spinel on the Cartier Santos crown? The 7-sided crown on the Santos W2SA0033 is set with a blue synthetic faceted spinel — a Cartier signature applied across multiple collections. The blue spinel is a sapphire-coloured synthetic stone that adds a jewellery dimension to the functional crown. It appears on Santos, Tank, Ballon Bleu, and other Cartier references, and is one of the small details that distinguishes Cartier watchmaking from tool-watch conventions.
What two straps come with the Cartier Santos Small W2SA0033? Two straps are included: the integrated 18k yellow gold and steel bracelet, with alternating gold and steel links and a fold-over clasp, and a dark blue calfskin leather strap with a steel ardillon buckle. Both straps are fitted with Cartier’s interchangeability system, allowing tool-free swaps. The leather strap shifts the Santos Small’s character from formal to more casual, and the dark blue picks up the colour of the spinel crown.
Does this Cartier Santos come with box and papers? Yes — complete full set with original Cartier box, papers, and documentation. Factory stickers intact. August 2026 warranty date.
Can I sell or trade in my Cartier or other luxury watch? Yes. Calibre24 buys and takes consignment on Cartier, Rolex, and other high-end references. Contact us for a current valuation.
