The IWC Pilot’s Watch — Aviation Heritage Since 1936

IWC’s Pilot’s Watch lineage begins in 1936 with the Special Pilot’s Watch — a tool instrument built for cockpit legibility, anti-magnetic protection, and reliability under extreme conditions. Those priorities have never changed. Ninety years on, the Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 carries the same convictions: Arabic numerals large enough to read at a glance, hands coated in high-intensity luminescence, a soft-iron inner cage shielding the movement from magnetic fields, and a sapphire crystal engineered to resist displacement from rapid cabin pressure changes. The George Russell edition brings a new dimension to that heritage — the design language of a current Formula 1 champion.

George Russell — The Man Behind the Blue

George Russell is a Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 driver and the winner of the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix. His career-long signature is blue — the colour of his helmet, his branding, and now his IWC. IWC Schaffhausen developed the George Russell editions in direct collaboration with Russell, weaving his identifying colour through every legibility element: the numerals, the minute track, the Super-LumiNova fill, the strap, and the buckle. The titanium caseback carries a second tribute — an engraving of his racing number, 63, the number Russell has carried since his karting days.

This is a collector’s piece that sits at the intersection of two high-performance worlds: Swiss precision instrument making and the most technologically demanding motorsport on earth.

The Case — Ceramic, Ceratanium, and Titanium

The case is machined from black zirconium oxide ceramic — a material used for its extreme scratch resistance, its matte-black depth of colour, and its lightness on the wrist. Where a steel case would show scratches over time, the ceramic body retains its finish through daily wear. The crown is formed from Ceratanium, IWC’s proprietary material combining the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic with the workability and lightness of titanium. The screw-down caseback is titanium, engraved with “63.” The combination of three materials — ceramic, Ceratanium, titanium — keeps the watch extraordinarily light for a 41mm case.

The Dial — Legibility as Design Language

The dial is black with the clean, bold layout that defines the Pilot’s Watch family: large white Arabic numerals at the cardinal positions, a broad minute track, an outer seconds track, and a date aperture at three o’clock. What distinguishes this edition is Russell’s blue — Super-LumiNova BGW9 (the brightest available) mixed to emit a blue-tinted glow in low light and visible as a cool blue wash on the numerals, minute markers, and alpha hands in daylight. The effect is purposeful, not decorative: it maps directly to Russell’s helmet design, and it makes every time-reading element immediately identifiable at a glance.

Calibre 32112 — 120 Hours of Reserve, In-House Manufacture

The movement is IWC’s in-house Calibre 32112, an automatic with double-pawl winding — a system that engages the mainspring from both directions of rotor rotation for greater efficiency. Its headline figure is 120 hours of power reserve: five full days from a full wind. That means a Monday winding keeps the watch running until Saturday evening, with time to spare. Practical utility aside, 120 hours of reserve is a genuine technical achievement in a movement of this case height. Additional protections include the soft-iron inner case (shielding the movement from magnetic interference without requiring special alloys in the movement itself) and the pressurised sapphire crystal, which resists displacement in the event of rapid air-pressure changes.

  • Calibre: 32112, in-house IWC manufacture
  • Winding system: Automatic, double-pawl bidirectional
  • Frequency: 28,800 vph (4 Hz)
  • Power reserve: 120 hours (~5 days)
  • Jewels: 21
  • Anti-magnetic protection: Soft-iron inner case
  • Date: Yes, instantaneous change at 3 o’clock
Limited to 1,063 Pieces

Production is strictly limited to 1,063 pieces worldwide. As allocation clears through authorised dealers globally, secondary market availability will only tighten. Brand new, unworn examples — complete with original packaging and papers — represent the most complete form in which this edition will ever be found.

Blue Rubber Strap — EasX-CHANGE System

The blue rubber strap is colour-matched to the luminous accents on the dial, completing the Russell livery. The EasX-CHANGE quick-release system allows the strap to be swapped without tools in seconds — a practical consideration for both collectors and daily wearers. The buckle is Ceratanium, matching the crown, and closes securely with a single pass through the keeper.

Brand New — Complete 2026 Full Set

This IW328107 is brand new and unworn — no previous owner, no service history. Supplied complete with original IWC box, papers, and all included accessories as delivered from IWC in 2026.

FAQs

What is the reference number for this IWC Pilot’s Watch George Russell? The reference is IW328107 — the Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 George Russell Limited Edition. IWC released two George Russell editions simultaneously in early 2026: the Automatic 41 (IW328107) and the Chronograph 41 (IW389411). The Automatic 41 is the more accessible of the two, with a cleaner dial layout and a thinner case profile (11.4mm vs 15.5mm for the Chronograph), while retaining the longer 120-hour power reserve from Calibre 32112.

What does the blue on this IWC Pilot represent? The blue is George Russell’s signature colour — the defining element of his racing helmet, his personal branding, and his identity within Formula 1. On the IW328107, blue Super-LumiNova fills the Arabic numerals, minute track markers, and alpha hands. In daylight the blue reads as a cool accent against the black dial; in low light it glows in blue. The blue rubber strap and Ceratanium buckle extend the livery to the wrist. The titanium caseback is engraved with “63,” Russell’s racing number since karting.

Is the case on this IWC Pilot steel or ceramic? It is black zirconium oxide ceramic — not steel, not titanium, not PVD-coated. Ceramic is more scratch-resistant than any coated metal and retains its matte-black finish through daily wear. The crown is Ceratanium (IWC’s proprietary ceramic-titanium composite) and the caseback is titanium. The combination keeps the watch significantly lighter than an equivalent steel case.

What is the power reserve on the IWC Calibre 32112? Approximately 120 hours — five full days from a full wind. This is delivered by a double-pawl automatic winding system, which engages the mainspring from both directions of rotor rotation, winding more efficiently than a single-pawl design. For context, a typical Rolex or Tudor automatic movement provides 48–70 hours; 120 hours is exceptional for an automatic of this case size and represents one of the strongest practical arguments for the Calibre 32112 in day-to-day wear.

How many George Russell IW328107 watches were made? Production of the IW328107 is strictly limited to 1,063 pieces worldwide — across all markets and authorised dealers globally. Once allocation clears, this edition will not be reissued. Brand new examples with original box and papers are the most complete form this watch will ever take, and availability will only decrease over time.

Is this watch suitable for daily wear despite being a limited edition? Yes. The black ceramic case is extremely scratch-resistant — far more so than steel or PVD-coated cases — meaning daily wear has minimal impact on its appearance. The EasX-CHANGE strap system makes it easy to swap between the blue rubber strap and alternatives (IWC sell compatible straps separately). Water resistance is 10 bar (100m), the screw-down crown is Ceratanium, and the soft-iron inner cage provides magnetic protection for the movement. This is a purpose-built tool watch that happens to be limited edition — it is designed to be worn.
