Rolex Datejust 36 Wimbledon Dial— the original Datejust size
The Datejust was introduced in 1945 as the first self-winding wristwatch to display the date in a window, and the 36mm case is its original and defining proportion. It preceded the 41mm by decades, and it remains the size that most accurately reads as a Datejust — balanced, versatile, neither oversized nor a dress watch scaled up from something smaller. The 36mm sits with equal authority on any wrist, which is why it has never been replaced, only extended.
The reference 126231 is the two-tone Datejust 36 in Oystersteel and Everose gold: steel case, Everose gold fluted bezel, and a five-link two-tone Jubilee bracelet combining polished Oystersteel and Everose gold links. The Everose gold — Rolex’s proprietary rose gold alloy, formulated to resist fading over time — reads warmer and softer than yellow gold and substantially less austere than white gold. It is the most versatile of the three Datejust metal options.
The Wimbledon dial is the most immediately recognisable dial variant in the Datejust collection. The slate grey sunray base carries black-enamelled Roman numerals outlined in green, the colour combination deriving from Rolex’s long-standing sponsorship of the Wimbledon Championships. It is the only Datejust dial configuration where the hour markers are Roman numerals — a deliberate contrast to the index-marker versions — and the green outlines give it a character that reads as both heritage and contemporary at the same time.
The Wimbledon dial range has expanded considerably since its introduction, but the slate grey with green-outlined Roman numerals has remained unchanged at its core — a dial that has become a fan-favourite across the entire Datejust line. On the 36mm case with Everose fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet, the combination is the quintessential dress-sport Rolex: precise enough for a boardroom, relaxed enough for a weekend.
Brand new, unworn. Q3 2026 warranty card. The watch has never been on a wrist. The watch is in production-fresh condition. Full set complete and intact.
The Calibre 3235 is Rolex’s current-generation date movement, introduced in 2015. It runs at 28,800 vph, delivers a 70-hour power reserve from a single barrel — giving the watch two full days plus unworn before stopping — and uses the Chronergy escapement for improved energy efficiency and reliability. The blue Parachrom hairspring resists magnetic fields and temperature variation. Certified as a Rolex Superlative Chronometer: accurate to ±2 seconds per day, Rolex’s own in-house standard, stricter than COSC alone.
The 126231’s metal construction is Rolex’s Rolesor format: an Oystersteel case body and Everose gold applied to the bezel and alternating bracelet links. Everose is Rolex’s proprietary 18k rose gold alloy — developed in-house, formulated with a specific composition that prevents the pinkish hue from fading over time, unlike standard rose gold. The Everose fluted bezel is a single piece of solid gold, machine-milled to Rolex’s proprietary fluting profile. The two-tone Jubilee reads warm but not showy — the proportions of the 36mm case keep it restrained.

What is the Rolex Datejust 36 Wimbledon dial? The Wimbledon dial is a Datejust dial variant featuring a slate grey sunray base with black-enamelled Roman numeral hour markers outlined in green — the colours of the Wimbledon Championships, which Rolex has sponsored for decades. It is the only Datejust configuration that uses Roman numerals as standard, and the green outlines give it a distinctive character unlike any other dial in the Rolex range. On the 126231, the slate grey dial pairs with the warm Everose gold fluted bezel and two-tone Jubilee bracelet.
What is the difference between the Rolex Datejust 36 126231, 126233, and 126234? All three are 36mm Datejust models with the Wimbledon dial and Jubilee bracelet, but differ by bezel metal. The 126231 has an 18k Everose gold fluted bezel and a two-tone Everose and Oystersteel Jubilee bracelet — the warmest, rosé-toned combination. The 126233 has an 18k yellow gold fluted bezel with a yellow gold and steel Jubilee. The 126234 has an 18k white gold fluted bezel on a steel-only Jubilee bracelet — the most restrained. The dial and case dimensions are identical across all three.
What is Everose gold on a Rolex? Everose is Rolex’s proprietary 18k rose gold alloy, developed and produced exclusively at Rolex’s in-house foundry in Geneva. It is formulated with a specific composition — including platinum — designed to prevent the pinkish hue from fading over time, a known issue with standard rose gold alloys. On the 126231, the Everose gold is used for the fluted bezel and the alternating links of the Jubilee bracelet. It is the same metal Rolex uses across its Everose Daytona and Day-Date references.
What is the Rolex fluted bezel and why does it exist? The fluted bezel is one of Rolex’s oldest design elements, originally introduced in the 1920s as a functional waterproofing device — the fluting locked the bezel to the case, helping seal the watch against moisture. On modern Rolex references the case is sealed by other means, but the fluted bezel has remained as Rolex’s signature dress element. On the Datejust, the fluted bezel in Everose or yellow gold is the traditional dress configuration; the smooth bezel is the sportier alternative.
What is the Calibre 3235 in the Rolex Datejust 36? The Calibre 3235 is Rolex’s current in-house date movement. It runs at 28,800 vph with approximately 70 hours of power reserve, uses the Chronergy escapement for efficiency, and carries a blue Parachrom hairspring for magnetic and shock resistance. It is certified as a Rolex Superlative Chronometer to ±2 seconds per day — Rolex’s own in-house standard, stricter than COSC. The 3235 replaced the 3135 in the Datejust 36 from 2018 onward.
What is the Easylink system on the Rolex Jubilee bracelet? Easylink is Rolex’s on-the-fly bracelet extension system, built into the Oysterclasp. It allows 5mm of additional bracelet length adjustment without tools — useful when wrist size changes due to heat, exercise, or during the day. On the two-tone Jubilee of the 126231, the Easylink extension maintains the bracelet’s polished finish at every extension increment.
