The GMT Master-II Pepsi 126710BLRO — a closed chapter in GMT history

Rolex discontinued the GMT-Master II 126710BLRO in April 2026. No successor has been announced. The steel ceramic Pepsi — the first red and blue Cerachrom GMT in Oystersteel, introduced in 2018 — is no longer in production. Supply is now fixed.

The Pepsi configuration has been part of the GMT-Master’s identity since 1955. Pan American World Airways pilots required a watch capable of tracking two time zones simultaneously: Rolex delivered the GMT-Master with a 24-hour rotating bezel, and the red and blue division of that bezel — blue for daylight hours, red for night — earned the nickname Pepsi within a generation of collectors. The 126710BLRO is the final expression of that configuration in Oystersteel.

This example is Q4 2025 — pre-discontinuation stock in mint, unpolished condition with the full original set. For buyers who understand what unpolished condition means on a closed reference, this is as correct as it gets.

Discontinued in April 2026 — what that means

When Rolex discontinues a reference without a replacement, two things happen simultaneously. The supply ceiling drops to what already exists in the secondary market. And the collector question changes from “when can I get this from an AD?” to “how many are left in this condition?”

The 126710BLRO is a parallel to the 116610LV Hulk: a specific Rolex configuration that no longer exists in current production, with secondary market values that have repriced accordingly. The Hulk’s green dial was retired when Rolex moved to the 126610LV; the Pepsi’s steel configuration was retired in April 2026 with nothing to replace it. In both cases, mint examples with full sets and preserved factory finishing represent the ceiling of what the closed reference can offer.

The red and blue Cerachrom bezel

For most of the GMT-Master’s history, the Pepsi bezel was aluminium — vibrant on new examples, prone to fading and bleaching over time. The red pigment proved the most difficult to stabilise in ceramic. Rolex solved the sintering problem in 2014 with the 116719BLRO in white gold. The steel 126710BLRO followed in 2018, bringing the ceramic Pepsi bezel to Oystersteel for the first time after a four-year wait.

The red and blue Cerachrom insert on the 126710BLRO is a single-piece construction: two colours produced simultaneously in one ceramic piece. The red marks hours 18 to 6 (day); the blue marks hours 6 to 18 (night). The 24-hour scale allows the GMT hand to point directly to the time in a reference time zone while the main dial reads local time. The numerals and graduations are moulded into the ceramic; the markers are platinum-coated by vacuum deposition. Neither the red nor the blue will fade — a guarantee no aluminium Pepsi bezel can offer.

The Oyster bracelet on the 126710BLRO

The 126710BLRO launched in 2018 on a Jubilee bracelet — the first five-link bracelet on a professional Rolex in decades. Rolex added the Oyster option in 2021. This example is the Oyster: three-piece solid links in brushed and polished Oystersteel, Oysterlock folding safety clasp, Easylink 5mm comfort extension.

The Oyster bracelet was the GMT-Master’s original bracelet configuration from the 1955 reference 6542 onward. For buyers who prefer the professional tool-watch character of the original GMT over the dressier five-link Jubilee, the Oyster bracelet is the correct choice — and it accounts for a minority of 126710BLRO examples in the secondary market.

Mint and unpolished. Original Rolex boxes, manuals, warranty card, and hang tag accompany the watch. Full set.

Unpolished condition is a meaningful qualifier on any pre-owned Rolex. Aftermarket polishing removes material and rounds edges; factory finishing does not replicate it.

FAQs

What is the Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi 126710BLRO? The 126710BLRO, nicknamed the “Pepsi,” is the Rolex GMT-Master II produced from 2018 to 2026 with a two-colour red and blue Cerachrom ceramic bezel. Red marks night hours and blue marks day on the 24-hour scale — a configuration that has defined the GMT-Master since the original 1955 reference 6542 developed for Pan American World Airways. The 126710BLRO was the first steel ceramic Pepsi; previous ceramic Pepsi bezels (from 2014) were available only in white gold. Rolex discontinued the 126710BLRO in April 2026 with no announced replacement.

Is this Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi 126710BLRO available in Australia? Yes. This Q4 2025 126710BLRO is held in Perth by Calibre24 and ships fully insured across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide. Viewings by appointment in Perth.

Why was the Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi 126710BLRO discontinued? Rolex discontinued the 126710BLRO in April 2026 without announcing a replacement. No steel Pepsi GMT-Master II is currently in production. The discontinuation follows Rolex’s established pattern of quietly retiring references without advance notice — the same approach used for the Submariner 116610LV Hulk in 2020. Since discontinuation, secondary market supply is fixed, and mint examples in full set and unpolished condition represent the ceiling of what the closed reference can offer.

What is the difference between the Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi 126710BLRO and the Batman 126710BLNR? Both are 40mm Oystersteel GMT-Master II references with Calibre 3285, black dials, and bidirectional Cerachrom bezels. The Pepsi (126710BLRO) has a red and blue bezel and was discontinued in April 2026 — supply is now fixed. The Batman (126710BLNR) has a blue and black bezel and remains in current production. The Pepsi launched exclusively on a Jubilee bracelet in 2018; the Oyster option was added in 2021. The Batman is available on both bracelets. The Pepsi commands a significant secondary market premium over the Batman, reflecting its closed reference status and the historical weight of the red and blue Pepsi configuration across seventy years of GMT-Master production.

What does unpolished mean on a Rolex GMT-Master II? Unpolished means the Oystersteel case and bracelet retain their original factory finishing — the precise combination of polished and brushed surfaces applied by Rolex during manufacture. Aftermarket polishing (done by watchmakers or jewellers to remove scratches) removes material, rounds case edges, and cannot replicate the factory finish. A pre-owned Rolex described as unpolished has not been through any polishing process. Collectors and serious buyers treat unpolished condition as a meaningful premium over polished examples of the same reference, because the factory finishing is irreversible.

What is the difference between the 126710BLRO Oyster and the 126710BLRO Jubilee? The 126710BLRO launched in 2018 exclusively on a five-link Jubilee bracelet, which gave the professional GMT-Master a dressier character than the original Oyster configuration. Rolex added the Oyster bracelet option in 2021, making the three-link Oystersteel bracelet available alongside the Jubilee for the first time on this generation. The Oyster bracelet (sub-reference 126710BLRO-0002) keeps the GMT-Master closer to its original professional tool-watch character. Oyster examples are less common in the secondary market, as the Jubilee was available for the full 2018–2026 production run and the Oyster only from 2021.

What is Calibre 3285 in the Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi? Calibre 3285 is Rolex’s current GMT movement, introduced across the GMT-Master II line from 2019. It runs at 28,800 vph, delivers approximately 70 hours of power reserve (up from 48 hours in the preceding Calibre 3186), and is certified to the Superlative Chronometer standard of ±2 seconds per day after casing. The Chronergy escapement achieves approximately 15% greater energy efficiency than conventional Swiss lever escapements. The Parachrom hairspring is paramagnetic and resistant to magnetic fields. The GMT hand is independently settable in one-hour increments without stopping the watch.

What does the GMT function on the 126710BLRO do? The GMT-Master II’s Calibre 3285 drives four hands. The standard hour and minute hands display local time. A fourth GMT hand — with a distinctive arrow tip — points to the 24-hour red and blue Cerachrom bezel, tracking a second time zone simultaneously. The “II” in GMT-Master II refers to the independently settable local hour hand: local time can be adjusted in one-hour increments on arrival in a new time zone without stopping the movement or disturbing the GMT reference time. This is the defining difference from the original GMT-Master.
