MB&F M.A.D.Editions — what it is and why getting one matters M.A.D.2 R&B
MB&F M.A.D.Editions is a sub-brand of MB&F, founded by Maximilian Büsser, dedicated to accessible, design-driven watches that express the same creative ethos as MB&F’s main collection — but at entry-level prices, through an allocation system built to prevent scalping and reward genuine enthusiasts.
The allocation system is the key. The M.A.D.2 R&B is available via raffle — registrations are open for one week, and winners are selected at random from those who enter. There is no waitlist, no relationship with an authorised dealer, no special access: the raffle is the only way to acquire a new M.A.D.2 R&B directly. For a watch at this price point, this is an unusual and genuinely meritocratic distribution — and it means that a brand new, sealed, full-set example appearing on the secondary market represents either a raffle winner who chose not to keep theirs, or allocation acquired through other channels. Finding one new and complete is the needle in the haystack.
The M.A.D.2 was launched in 2025 in collaboration with designer Eric Giroud, who brought the concept of a 1990s club culture-inspired watch to MB&F — a design originally conceived in the 1990s that never reached production until now. Giroud’s vision was a watch that resembled the turntables of a DJ mixing console, with grooves like those of a vinyl record engraved into the dial plate and two raised sub-dials displaying jumping hours and trailing minutes — the dual-disc layout directly referencing a DJ’s two decks.
Where the M.A.D.1 played the card of an offbeat lateral display, the M.A.D.2 embraced a different obsession: 1990s club culture, vinyl, turntables, nights spent spinning records. The nostalgia is specific and the design execution is literal — this is not metaphorical inspiration, it is a direct translation of a turntable’s physical layout into a watch dial.
The R&B edition features a midnight black dial plate with vinyl-record grooves, contrasted by red jumping-hour and trailing-minute discs — the first new edition of the M.A.D.2 for 2026, alongside the REDemption. The name is a double meaning: Red & Black as a colour description, and R&B as the music genre that grew from the same club culture that inspired the watch’s design. The black strap continues the midnight black theme off the wrist.
The REDemption — the inverted colourway, red plate with black discs — was not available via raffle. The REDemption was offered exclusively to collectors who had entered at least four previous M.A.D.Editions raffles without winning, as a direct acknowledgement of their perseverance. The R&B is the raffle-available edition — the one a buyer could actually try to win, and the one available here.
The M.A.D.2 displays time through two disc-based mechanisms, not conventional hands. The left disc displays the jumping hour — the numeral changes instantaneously at the top of each hour, with no gradual sweep. The right disc displays the trailing minutes — a continuous disc rotation that shows the current minute with the scale trailing behind it, like a record still spinning. Both discs are red on the R&B, sitting above the black grooved dial plate. Reading the time requires a moment’s orientation for the uninitiated, but is intuitive in regular use: the large numerals are legible at a glance.
The bi-directional jumping hour module was developed by MB&F specifically for the M.A.D.2, built on top of the La Joux-Perret G101 base movement. The module adds the jumping hour complication to what is otherwise a robust and proven Swiss automatic — a sensible foundation for a creative complication.

What is the MB&F M.A.D.2 R&B? The M.A.D.2 R&B is a 2026 edition of the MB&F M.A.D.Editions M.A.D.2, designed by Eric Giroud. It features a 42mm stainless steel case with a rounded pebble shape, a midnight black dial plate with vinyl-record groove texture, and two red discs — a jumping hour disc on the left and a trailing minutes disc on the right — referencing the dual decks of a DJ’s turntable. The R&B name is a double reference: Red & Black (the colours) and the R&B music genre tied to 1990s club culture that inspired the design. It is powered by a Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement with an MB&F-developed jumping hour module, and limited to 1,500 pieces globally.
How do you get an MB&F M.A.D.Editions watch? What is the raffle? MB&F M.A.D.Editions distributes its watches through a raffle system rather than traditional retail. Registrations for each new edition are open for one week, and winners are selected randomly from all entrants. There is no waitlist, no dealer relationship required, and no advantage from previous purchases — the raffle gives everyone an equal chance. The M.A.D.2 R&B was offered this way, limited to 1,500 pieces. Finding a brand new, sealed, full-set example on the secondary market means either acquiring it from a raffle winner or through another channel — it is not a watch you can simply order.
What is the difference between the MB&F M.A.D.2 R&B and the M.A.D.2 REDemption? The R&B and REDemption are 2026 sister editions of the M.A.D.2 with inverted colourways. The R&B has a midnight black dial plate and red discs, available via open raffle. The REDemption has a bright red dial plate and black discs, and was offered exclusively to collectors who had entered at least four previous M.A.D.Editions raffles without winning — a reward for perseverance rather than a raffle entry. The REDemption’s caseback carries a special engraving: “They say I’m stubborn, I’d say persistent.” Both share the same 42mm case & La Joux-Perret G101 movement.
What is a jumping hour watch and how does the M.A.D.2 display time? A jumping hour watch displays the current hour via a disc or aperture that changes instantaneously at the top of each hour, rather than an hour hand that sweeps continuously. On the M.A.D.2, the left disc shows the jumping hour — it flips to the next numeral precisely at the hour mark. The right disc shows the trailing minutes — a continuous rotation that displays the current minute with the scale trailing behind it. Both discs are visible above the grooved black dial plate on the R&B. The display is legible at a glance once the wearer is familiar with the layout.
What movement is in the MB&F M.A.D.2? The M.A.D.2 R&B uses the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret calibre G101 as its base movement — the same automatic used in the M.A.D.1S Slim. MB&F’s team developed a bi-directional jumping hour and trailing minutes module built on top of the base calibre, which adds the two-disc time display unique to the M.A.D.2. The movement runs at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), has 24 jewels, and delivers 64 hours of power reserve.
What is MB&F M.A.D.Editions? MB&F M.A.D.Editions is a sub-brand of MB&F, founded by Maximilian Büsser (the Büsser in MB&F), dedicated to making independent watch design accessible at entry-level luxury prices. Where MB&F’s main collection produces pieces that are often well above six figures, M.A.D.Editions cost much less — watches that share the same creative philosophy and independent spirit without the precious metal and grand complication cost. The raffle distribution system is designed to prevent scalping and ensure the watches reach genuine enthusiasts rather than flippers.
Does this MB&F M.A.D.2 R&B come with box and papers? Yes — complete full set with original MB&F M.A.D.Editions box, papers, and all documentation.
Can I sell or trade in my MB&F or other luxury watch? Yes. Calibre24 buys and takes consignment on MB&F, Rolex, and other high-end references. Contact us for a current valuation.
